The concepts of risk and crisis increasingly dominate public debates in national and international politics and society. Risks and crises carry dangers and opportunities that shape the way politicians, corporations and NGOs function.
In January 2004, the Irmgard Coninx Foundation started the Berlin Roundtables on Transnationality with six workshops on issues of transnational risks and civil society, including focuses on health, financial markets, the environment or the power of the media. In December 2004, as a continuation of theses first debates we organized the second Roundtables on the topic of humanitarian intervention. In 2011 we will return to these issues within the frame of the 14th Roundtables on Transnationality. Under the heading “Financialization of Everyday Life,” the credit system, debt, and the expansion of corprorate social responsibility projects will be in the center.
