Irmgard Coninx Research Professorship

The Irmgard Coninx Foundation funds a five-year research professorship at the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) and Humboldt-Universität Berlin. In 2010, Mattias Kumm, who is also professor of law at New York University, was selected and appointed by all three institutions. The research professorship under the title Rule of Law in the Age of Globalization is linked to the WZB Rule of Law Center, which is also chaired by Mattias Kumm.

Mattias Kumm’s research focuses on issues of European and comparative constitutional law, international law and philosophy of law. He examines relations between national and international courts in the context of multilevel governance. Mattias Kumm received his law degree from Harvard Law School where, in 2000, he also completed his dissertation. Since 2006 he is a professor of law at NYU. He lectured at many international institutions, including Harvard Law School, National University of Singapore, and Bucerius Law School.

Mattias Kumm has conducted research and published extensively on constitutional law and philosophy of law, among others in the International Journal of Constitutional Law, Law & Ethics of Human Rights and European Journal of International Law.
